Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is the use of bioidentical hormones to supplement your body’s natural supply when you aren’t producing enough on your own for optimal health. Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers; they tell other parts of the body how and when to work. Low or imbalanced hormone levels can have widespread effects on your health and feelings of overall well-being.
At Transcend Rx, we utilize BHRT pellets as part of our treatment plan to optimize hormone levels and continually release testosterone or estrogen in both men and women. The pellets we use are sourced from FDA registered custom compounding pharmacies. During a quick office visit, the pellets are subcutaneously inserted. Effects usually take place within four to six weeks after pellet insertion. Most patients start feeling the full benefits after the second pellet insertion.
BHRT For Men
In men, BHRT is most often used to treat an age-related decline in testosterone, also known as andropause. Low testosterone affects 7 million men in the United States and it often labeled by the medical community as andropause, hypogonadism, or Low T. Over the past 30 years, testosterone levels in men have decreased by 25%. Although the exact cause is unknown; it is believed to be the secondary estrogenic effects of environmental pollutants, plastics, processed foods, and stress. Low testosterone effects 35% of men over the age of 30, however, it is often considered to be a “normal part of aging” despite being symptomatic.
Testosterone is the most common hormone used in BHRT for the treatment of men. Bioidentical testosterone is not the same as synthetic testosterone found in commercial products. Bioidentical testosterone is made from plant sources and is chemically engineered to be identical to the testosterone in your body. When a man’s hormone levels are low, hormone replacement therapy may help relieve a wide array of different symptoms, both physical and emotional. BHRT may alleviate symptoms by treating the cause, not just the symptoms themselves.
Treatment begins with a consultation to review your medical history, discuss symptoms, and understand how life has changed for you personally. Afterwards, blood will be drawn and sent to the lab to assess your current hormone levels and get to the root cause of your symptoms. After the results come back from the lab, a comprehensive treatment plan is developed that may also include dietary changes, fitness recommendations, and supplements designed to optimize your hormonal balance and improve overall health. At Transcend Rx, we will partner with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your health & wellness goals and lifestyle.
Pellets last four to six months in men, so no need for a weekly office visit to receive an injection.
BHRT For Women
Bioidentical hormones are naturally derived from plant estrogens, they have the same molecular structure and behave identically to our own natural hormones. For women, the most common hormones used in BHRT are estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and/or DHEA
